Lots of shows coming up
3rd March 2008
On Wednesday (5th March) we're playing Emo's (Austin, TX) with The Burning Hotels. The following week is SXSW here in Austin and to kick things off we're playing 3 songs at the Guided By Voices hoot night at Club De Ville on Tuesday 11th at 9.30pm. Our official showcase is on Wednesday 12th at Fado, 214 W 4th St. at 10pm. Then we've got two day parties - the first at Doc's Motorworks (South Congress) on Friday 14th at 4pm, the next is our very own 8-Track Mind Records Day Party at Longbranch Inn, our local bar/the best bar in town! We take the stage second to last at 3:45pm, followed by The Beltholes. Before us is Chris Brokaw (2.45pm), Future Clouds & Radar (1.50pm) and The Summer Wardrobe, who kick things off at 1pm.
Then we'll polish up some new songs for our Emo's Lounge (Austin) show on Saturday April 5th, followed 2 weeks later by our outing to Fort Worth, TX to open for Throw Me The Statue on Saturday April 19th at Lola's.
Austin show next week!
1st February 2008
We're playing a show at Hole In The Wall next Thursday, the 7th. It will be our first Austin show since completing "Your Nearest Exit May Be Behind You", our 3rd album. Come down/up/across/out/in/over/as you are and check out the new tunes. We're on at 11, but tell your drummer friends "10:30"... Hey, now I play the drums (albeit not very well yet) I should probably stop with the drummer jokes, right? Seems such a shame though... with all this time sitting down and not having to play any notes, I have even more time to come up with them... ha!

11th December 2007

It's done!
17th September 2007
We're proud to announce the birth of our third album, 'Your Nearest Exit May Be Behind You'. We finished mixing yesterday and Fedex is currently, I hope, winging the tapes briskly on their way to Chicago, where on Monday they will be competently mastered into a 33-ish minute musical adventure by Mr Bob Weston. We therefore have about another 36 hours to figure out which order the songs should go in...
Mixing took place on Thursday and a little of Friday at Jack Rock's incredible Treefort Studio, here in Austin. Jim Vollentine, as always, was a total pleasure to work with and exceeded our expectations (which were already pretty damn high). We clocked in 12 hours on Thursday, and I have never been so productive or happy whilst feeling so incredibly hungover and underslept. I took a bunch of photos and I'll update this blog to include them at a later date, but here's a quickie off the phone-cam to tide you over. A little explanation is maybe required though...
In the "Which Sports Car Are You?" quiz, George was a Ferrari - at least according to me answering the questions on his behalf. When I told him, he asked "Is it because I'm high maintenance and spin easily out of control?" I think I maybe pretended to not get that text. Anyway, the number of toy Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc. scattered about Jack Rock's studio inspired me to stick a couple on my reclining bandmate to clear up the confusion once and for all. Somewhere in this photo is a Ferrari Testarossa, a Lamborghini Miuri and a Ferrari Duronsta - I mean, George. Can you spot the difference?
Album 3 pretty much finished
25th September 2007
We spent the weekend at Mob House studio here in Austin with the highly awesome Jim Vollentine, recording the final 5 songs for our third album, 'Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha'.... no, I'm kidding - it's tentatively titled: 'Your Nearest Exit May Be Behind You'. Not only are we thrilled with the results, but it was a really fun weekend to boot, packed with smokey treats, bird watching classes, way too much Sugar Free Red Bull, amazing sushi, soy poisoning, Ambien and dodgy English accents (other than my own). In spite of all that, we still managed to crack out 5 songs in 2.5 days, which is a credit to my awesome band mates and Monsieur Vollentine (and the Sugar Free Red Bull).
Full track listing (not in order):
Your Nearest Exit May Be Behind You
English Medicine
Black Cars
Magnet
Hold Tight
Sleepyhead
How Can People Wear That Stuff?
Kid Could Be You
Call The Police
Looks Fast For A Reason
Kiss Me Like You Mean It
Photofit
We'll be adding some finishing touches within the next week, followed by mixing and mastering in October.
Last-minute ACL after-show announced
8th September 2007
We've added a last-minute show: Saturday 15th September at Ego's (Austin, TX), with the excellent Moonlight Towers. We've never played Ego's OR with Moonlight Towers, so we're very pleased this is happening. We're on first, at 10. $5 to get in.
Kansas show in 4 days!
14th August 2007
We are heading up to Lawrence, KS this weekend to play the North Vs South music festival. Our show is on Saturday 18th at the Jackpot Saloon and we're on at 9.
Then it's back to Austin to prepare for our next hometown show - Thursday 30th August at Club De Ville.
Thanks to Chepo Pena for the awesome poster art!
Our first show in nearly 3 months!!
23rd July 2007
We're breaking our show fast by playing at Austin's Hole In The Wall on Saturday the 4th of August. Our three-piece line-up fits perfectly on their little triangular stage, so we like playing there. Plus it sounds great and it's not downtown so parking's pretty easy. Come on out! It's a Saturday night! We play at 11!
What's changed since our last show on 24th May? Hmmm... well, we've all got slightly longer hair. Matt has been to Alaska. I've lost 10lbs and purchased a Sex Drive pedal. George has discovered A.C. Newman. All of this can only help the rock. We can't believe it's been so long... but it has, and to be honest we don't know when we'll be playing Austin again, so come get it while it's still on the menu. And no, there is not a vegetarian option, so don't even ask.
Me, solo, Saturday - CANCELLED
5th June 2007
Unfortunately I didn't manage to shake my chest infection in time for tonight's Carousel Lounge show, so I've had to cancel. You should still go and see The Distant Seconds though, they are great!

21st May 2007
We are playing with Spoon at Granada Theatre in Dallas, TX, tomorrow - TUESDAY 22nd MAY and we have 20 tickets to give away. This is not an open to the public show which is why you didn't know it was happening until just now. The only way to get a ticket is right here! Email us and we'll take it from there. We've only got 20 tickets, so hurry!
Next show!
8th May 2007
We're playing Hole in the Wall, Austin on Tuesday 15th May. We're on at 10.30. Come see.
NYC road trip / mini-tour diary
23rd April 2007
I was too busy having fun / driving / eating fish to post to our myspace blog as promised on our last trip. Apologies. I did however take a bunch of pics and they helped jog my memory enough to retrospectively write a trip diary, which you can now check out here:
http://www.thesuddenmoves.com/diary.php
Go get 'em, tiger!
Stubb's show / power trio
18th April 2007
First up, a polite reminder that we're headlining Stubb's inside on Friday (20th) at 11.30. Support comes from Aster (10.30) and the awesome Youngmond Grand (9.30).
In other news, we're sad to announce Eric Friend is no longer going to be playing keyboards with us. However, we're taking the opportunity to change things up a bit and pare things down to a rocking three-piece. We're pretty excited about that part. Friday's show at Stubb's will be your first chance to see the new line-up (unless you were at the show in Brooklyn last Saturday), and we'll be debuting some new songs too.
Hear us on your radio tomorrow
16th April 2007
Our 7 song session/interview with Joe Belock on WFMU will be broadcast tomorrow, Tuesday 17th April, at noon. Those in the Jersey City area can tune to 91.1FM, the rest of the world can listen on the internet at http://www.wfmu.org/audiostream.shtml. The session was a lot of fun to record on Friday, and we debuted 6 new, unreleased songs.
Brooklyn here we come!
27th March 2007
We're delighted to say we'll be playing Magnetic Field in Brooklyn, NY, on Saturday 14th April, along with our friends The Summer Wardrobe.
Two more Austin shows announced
26th March 2007
We're playing Stubb's on Friday 20th April with Aster and Supercontinent. Before that, catch us at Emo's on Thursday 5th April with The Alice Rose and The Golden Apples.
Rock n Roll Relay
20th March 2007
We're playing The Carousel Lounge here in Austin this Saturday, 24th March, along with our good friends and associates The Summer Wardrobe and The Distant Seconds. I had this idea years ago for a show, maybe even a party/festival, where a band would play and after their set, one member would stay on stage because they were also a member of the next band. Repeat to fade. Sort of like a Rock Family Tree book come to life. So Saturday is gonna be our own little version of that. The Distant Seconds' singer Matt is our bass player, our drummer George also drums in The Summer Wardrobe. This is all very entertaining for me of course, as I only have to play one set.
Thanks once again to Derek Erdman for fantastic flyer art at a moment's notice. Derek, I'll be adding new stock to Erdman Gallery South later this week.
Houston show - tomorrow!
2nd March 2007
HOUSTON! Tomorrow! GO!
We are playing Houston for the FIRST TIME EVER IN RECORDED OR EVEN UNRECORDED HISTORY!
When?
Saturday March 3rd, 10pm.
Where?
Rudyard's (2010 Waugh, Houston, TX)
With whom?
Hilary York, Charles P and the 10%
But why?
Are you trying to be funny?
Anything else?
I mean it - outside, now. George carries knives, I can totally out-swear you and sound like an evil villain whilst doing it and Matt will sue your ass for even trying.
If that's not enough excitement for you, we will bring a supply of CDs, buttons and well-designed t-shirts which I will forget to bring in from the van or mention to anyone that we have them. It's gonna be great!!
Next show
10th February 2007
Come and see us on the 21st at the Hole in the Wall, Austin, TX. It's free and support comes from The Distant Seconds and The Black.
LP3 update
4th February 2007
We were back in the studio this weekend and have finished album 3's first batch of songs - "Sleepyhead", "Kid Could Be You" and "How Can People Wear That Stuff?"

Feb 8th at Emo's Lounge is our next show, followed on the 21st by our Hole in the Wall debut. Support at the Hole comes from The Distant Seconds and The Black. Both great bands, check them out on myspace.
Eat BBQ whilst watching The Sudden Moves
28th December 2006
Just a polite reminder that we will be playing Stubb's BBQ on Saturday Jan 6th. Just the inside room this time. It's cold out.
Two more shows announced - and they're not on school nights!!
3rd December 2006
We're playing another FREE show at The Carousel Lounge on Friday Dec 15th, then catch our first show of 2007 at Stubb's BBQ on Saturday Jan 6th.
Polite reminder
6th November 2006
Doing anything next week?
24th October 2006
We will be supporting Britt Daniel at The Parish, Austin, TX on Thursday November 2nd. Also playing is Pink Nasty. I believe we play at 9 o'clock. Hope to see you there!
When's your next show?
5th October 2006
They keep asking me. At last I can answer: We'll be playing at The Carousel Lounge (Austin) on Thursday 9th November, along with The Distant Seconds (Matt's band) and Quien es, Boom! And yes, this means we found a drummer. You will meet him on the 9th. He's good... Oh, and the show is free, so come on out!
Sudden blog
22nd September 2006
At last, I have started a Sudden Moves myspace blog.
Drummer needed
21st September 2006
We are looking for a drummer! We have been borrowing the original Sudden Moves drummer for this batch of recording, but we need to find a full-time replacement who can play shows with us. Ideal candidates are clean-shaven and gluten-free. Please email us with info if you think you are what we are looking for.
PS: We're shooting for 500 myspace friends by the end of the year. Help us out! http://www.myspace.com/sallycreweandthesuddenmov
LP3 recording begins...
5th July 2006
Woo-hoo! Back in the studio! That's right kids, the third Sudden Moves album officially gets underway on Saturday (unofficially tomorrow, when I'll pop round to Matt's to do some scratch tracks on Pro-T**ls). As stated in the last update, we're recording at Jim Eno's Public Hi-Fi studio, here in Austin. The first 3 songs under the knife are tour favourite 'How Can People Wear That Stuff?' along with newcomers 'Sleepyhead' and 'Kid Could Be You'.
Free Austin show May 20th
2nd May 2006
Wow - long time no update... Well first of all, a big thank you to everyone who came out to see us on our March US tour with The Wedding Present. It was great to play so many places and meet so many fans, old and new.
What of the future? Well, we're playing some shows around Austin - the next one being on May 20th (a Saturday!) at The Carousel Lounge. It's free, and The Carousel is a really cool place.
Throughout May and June we'll be busy rehearsing up new material for album 3, which we start work on in July. So far we have three songs committed - "English Medicine", "Stars of the History Channel" and "How Can People Wear That Stuff?". All of which are in our current live set. The album will be recorded here in Austin with Mr Jim Eno at his recently completed Public Hi-Fi studio.
I've also got some photos and video from the tour which I will be adding to the web site just as soon as I get time...
Austin shows / new line-up for the tour
25th January 2006
We'll be playing at The Parish, Austin, TX on Thursday 9th February, along with Craig Ross and The Rite Flyers. We're also pretty sure we're playing Club De Ville (Austin) during SXSW (Friday 17th), as well as a day party on the 18th. More info as we know it.
Both Matt (bass) and Eric (keyboards) were unable to join us on our upcoming tour, so we've borrowed Eric Harvey for bass and Stephen Wettermark for keyboards.
